The word that best describes the debut album by the lads in Flood of Red is a "surprise." It may at times be a tad repetitive but this is one of the most fluid and interesting albums in a somewhat worn-out genre. The level of song writing has been taken to new heights from their 'Lost in the Light' EP from 2007. Each instrument gives something interesting to the album, whether it be Graham's fast-paced technical drumming, Calum's contagious riffs or Jordan's incredibly laid out melodies. This album is best listened to in its entirety from start to finish without any distractions to hear every subtle melody and hook. Brian McTernan was a perfect choice for producing the album and has made the album transform from "good" to "great." The only problem with choosing a producer that has worked with bands in the same genre such as 'Scary Kids Scaring Kids' and 'Circa Survive' is that there is a tendency to notice similarities with the bands and therefore have an opinion before listening to the album. However, in my opinion, this CD showcases the guys' abilities to write kick-ass songs and is a must-have for anyone that enjoys thoughtful energetic music. The songs that stick out are 'I am The Speechless', 'Home,Run' and 'Paper Lungs.'
